Week 3 Was Wild AF
Man, I love the NFL. It never fails to produce compelling storylines, and this week was no exception. Week 3 was one of the wildest weeks I can remember in the NFL. Anything you thought you knew, now means nothing. Survivor pools are completely dead. Fantasy teams were crippled. The Browns won a football game! The wackiness started Thursday night, and continued all the way through Sunday night. And we haven’t even seen Fitzmagic or the Steel Town Soap Opera yet! Here’s a list of some of the crazy things that went down this week:
Browns Win
The Cleveland Browns won their first game in 635 days. That’s an absurd amount of time between victories. The cool part was that it happened in dramatic fashion, as Baker Mayfield replaced an injured Tyrod Taylor and pulled off a comeback for the win. Baker looked great, and the Bud Light fridges were finally unlocked. Congrats, Cleveland. Now go win a few more.
Bills Beat Vikings
This was by far the most shocking result of the weekend. The Bills have looked like the worst NFL team ever over the first two weeks. I legitimately thought they were worse than the 2017 Browns. They couldn’t even tweet out the correct location of the game.
The Vikings rolled in with one of the best defenses in the NFL, and they were fresh off a great game against the Packers, which somehow ended in a tie. They proceeded to get absolutely steamrolled by the freaking Bills. I don’t understand how this could possibly happen. The Vikings appear to be Super Bowl contenders. They have it all – a great D, a solid QB, a good run game, and great receivers. This was an all-time terrible game. No one on earth saw this coming.
Lions Beat Patriots
Speaking of teams who have looked terrible, the Lions came into Week 3 with a 0-2 record, having allowed 78 points. They then promptly held Tom Brady to 10 points. Sure. Side note – the Patriots are not done, and Tom Brady is not washed up. We’ve seen this story before. Carry on.
More Surprising Outcomes
Here’s a few more I didn’t see coming:
- Redskins beat Packers 31-17
- Titans beat Jags 9-6 (I didn’t watch this, but that sounds incredibly boring)
- The Dolphins are 3-0 and have a two game lead over the Patriots
- The Bears are in 1st place in the NFC North
- The Falcons scored 37 points, Matt Ryan scored five TDs, and they still lost to the Saints
Fantasy Football Nightmares
This week was brutal for fantasy purposes. So many bad/weird performances. It was truly depressing to check my scores. Here’s a solid tweet from Health Cummings (@heathcummingssr) recapping the wackiness:
If you own any of the guys on the right side of that tweet, you are bitter today. Let’s just hope next week goes better. In addition, Jimmy G. tore his ACL and A.J. Green injured his groin. Fantastic!
We Know Nothing
Who’s actually good following Week 3? The only team I know for sure is the Rams, thought their top two corners were injured. The Chiefs look good, but their defense is so weak. The Pats are struggling right now. The Jags looked great against the Pats, but then lost to the Titans, so maybe it was just because the Pats aren’t good right now? The Saints can score, but their defense is also terrible. The Redskins have looked really good in Weeks 1 and 3, but looked horrible against the Colts. Speaking of the Colts, they almost beat the Eagles, who lost to the Bucs last week. The Packers and Vikings are both 1-1-1, and are both coming off really bad weeks.
That’s a horribly written way of saying the NFL is cray cray right now. We don’t know who is good yet. There is so much parody in the league that everyone still has a shot (unless you’re the Cardinals). It’s not time to panic based on the results we saw this week. Everything will play itself out in the next few weeks, and for the most part order will be restored. However, some of these underdogs are the real deal, but is it the Bears? Bucs? Titans? Who knows, but it will be fun finding out.
