NFC Season Preview

The NFL Preseason is underway, and we are about a month away from meaningful football. Until then, we pray that injuries don’t hit our teams (pour one out for Derrius Guice). There’s nothing worse than knowing it’s over before it even begins. Right, Cleveland? Below I dive into every division in the NFC, and provide predictions for how the season will unfold. Please don’t revisit this post in January. Thanks.

NFC North

  1. Vikings (13-3)
  2. Packers (10-6)
  3. Bears (7-9)
  4. Lions (5-11)

The Vikings are probably the most complete team in the NFL. The defense is great, and the run game was fantastic last year, especially with a healthy Dalvin Cook. The defense/run game combo will keep opposing teams at bay, and will open up the pass game (expecting big things from Diggs). They will role to division crown.  The Packers will be the Packers. They’ll be damn good because Aaron Rodgers is their QB. However, the defense will be underwhelming, which will keep them behind the Vikings.

The Bears will be one of the surprise teams of the NFL. I think Mitch Trubisky takes a big step this year, and we see a resurgence from Allen Robinson. Pair that with a strong run game and Matt Nagy at the helm, and you have a recipe for success. They will fall just short of a playoff spot. The Lions have a decent QB, but the run game and Defense are lacking. In a strong division, they will struggle to win many games.

NFC East

  1. Eagles (11-5)
  2. Giants (9-7)
  3. Redskins (7-9)
  4. Cowboys (6-10)

The defending champs will win this division again, but they will come back down to reality. Heading into the playoffs, we will see a vulnerable team. I don’t trust the run game, but Wentz will do his part to take the division. The Giants have too much talent on offense to be bad again, right? If they stink, it’s going to be because Eli is awful. I think Barkley will spark the run game and we will see a new look Giants team.

I would feel better about the Redskins’ chances if they didn’t just lose Guice. Maybe they bring in a veteran, but I think we see more run game struggles (in part because Gruden won’t commit with sub-par backs). They falter late and miss the playoffs again. I think the Cowboys are going to suck, mostly because Dak is overrated, the WR corps is shit, and the defense isn’t good. But let’s be honest, I hate them so that’s probably the real reason I think they will suck. Hail.

NFC South

  1. Saints (12-4)
  2. Falcons (11-5)
  3. Panthers (8-8)
  4. Buccaneers (2-14)

This will be a fun division race. The Saint will be one of the top Super Bowl contenders, and will likely win this division. The Falcon will surge, but fall just short. Both offenses will be a joy to watch; great QBs, top-notch run games, elite WRs, and surging defenses. Count me in.

The Panthers will be a good time, but they won’t have enough to get over the hump. A strong division will be too much for them this time. As for the Bucs, we are looking at the #1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. And after this year, they might think about selecting a QB. #FreeMikeEvans

NFC West

  1. Rams (10-6)
  2. 49ers (10-6)
  3. Seahawks (6-10)
  4. Cardinals (3-13)

Both the Rams and the 49ers have been hyped this offseason. They are both trendy picks to make the playoffs and make a run. I think both underperform. Last year, the Rams had a near perfect season and went 10-6. The NFL will catch up to McVay just a bit, but the additions they made will still ensure they are a good team. They will edge out the 49ers due to some weird tiebreaker.

To be honest, I’m at the beach right now and I’m tired of writing. Nobody cares about the Cardinals or Seahawks anyway. They both miss the playoffs and they both stink. Here’s to hoping Larry Fitzgerald gives us one more year.

Playoff Picture

  1. Vikings (13-3)
  2. Saints (12-4)
  3. Eagles (11-5)
  4. Rams (10-6)
  5. Falcons (11-5)
  6. Packers (10-6)

The NFC Playoffs will be loaded with talent. It will be completely up for grabs come January. The Falcons and Packers will both win on Wild Card weekend. Packers/Vikings and Saints/Falcons will be an awesome duo of division matchups. The NFC Title game will see the Vikings take on the Saints, and we’ll see the Saints march on to the Super Bowl.

That will give us a Saints vs Patriots Super Bowl. Sounds awesome, right? In a really entertaining game, the Saints will become Super Bowl Champs. Drew Brees will win MVP, and retirement will become a possibility.

So, I’m on the record with Saints over Patriots for Super Bowl LIII. What you got?
