Just a Hunch: Week 3 Edition
After the first 2 weeks of the NFL season, the theme becomes “Overreaction”.
Several of the elite teams from the prior year find themselves 0-2, or 1-1 with a lackluster couple showings. The media immediately latches onto any narrative they can to explain the shaky starts. The fans are already calling for QB changes or even coaches to get put on the hot seat.
It’s time for everyone to R-E-L-A-X.
Trap Games
This week has several games that scream upset to me.
Oakland @ Miami
Oakland can’t be THAT bad can they?
And Miami can’t be THAT great can they?
The answers are maybe and no, but I’m holding onto the shred of hope that Oakland will still show some semblance of the AFC contender they were.
Tennessee @ Jacksonville
Jacksonville should have went to the Super Bowl last year. They are perhaps the most talented team in the entire league on paper.
Tennessee is not.
BUT this is a divisional game, and with a banged up Ramsey and Fournette, this feels like a low-scoring, divisional upset.
Green Bay @ Washington
The Skins came out and laid an egg last week. The defense tightened up after the 1st quarter, but the offense just could not get a run game going, and consequently found themselves checking down ALL DAY.
Green Bay took Minnesota to OT and got a tie out of it. This should honestly be seen as a W for them, because Minnesota is one of the best teams in the league. Not to mention the fact that Rodgers is playing through a lot of pain right now.
But this week will be different.
The Skins D is holding up quite nicely, and for whatever reason, they showed up against GB the last couple times they have matched up. The home team shows up and with a good running game, gets the job done against the pack.
Boiling water comes to a simmer
There are no teams hotter in the league right now than Tampa Bay and Kansas City.
Fits-Magic and Mahomes have been putting up Madden-esque numbers in the first 2 weeks. There is no way this can continue.
I still think Kansas City pulls out a win against the 49ers, but Tampa Bay on the other hand is going to get stonewalled by Pittsburgh.
If Fitzpatrick was this good, he wouldn’t be playing for his 7th NFL team.
Sibling Rivalries
Ok, sort-of.
The Pats play the Lions. Which means Belichick gets to put a thumping on his protege (who may be in over his head).
Then you have the 2 LA teams facing off.
I expect a HIGH scoring affair, as these two teams have some of the most firepower in the league.
It’ll be exciting, but the Rams will do enough to stay undefeated.
So there you have it. My bulletproof narratives for week 3. Zero chance they don’t all prove to be wrong.
Zero.
