Just a Hunch: Week 2 NFL Action
The first week of NFL action is always the most unpredictable and unreliable baseline for the season moving forward.
Freak things happen, like injuries, wild turnovers, or teams that are really using week 1 as their preseason. Everything is sort of settling itself and every one is getting their footing under them.
So with all of that said, here are my biggest week 2 NFL predictions, which are totally a guess with no firm basis whatsoever:
The Suck keep Sucking
Buffalo put on one of the worst performances of not only week 1 this season, but in recent memory. Arizona got absolutely dominated (HTTR), and Detroit and Oakland got their asses kicked in their own respects.
Week 2 won’t be much different.
Buffalo plays the Chargers, who is a much better team from top to bottom and, despite their loss week 1 to the Chiefs, will look to rebound against rookie Josh Allen and the Bills.
Arizona plays the Rams, which is big trouble for them. If you think the Skins run game was potent and our defense was suffocating, hah. Watch what happens to Arizona when Todd Gurley is charging out of the backfield. Add in Aaron Donald and company rushing the backfield and Arizona might get shutout.
Detroit plays out in the bay at San Francisco. They will be looking to rebound off of turnover city against the Jets. But San Francisco has something to prove too. Jimmy G will tighten up his game and because Stafford won’t, San Fran is going to take care of business.
Oakland is a mess. They traded their most dominate player away and their offense has looked a bit rough dating back to the end of last year. I see their matchup against division rival Denver this week as a catalyst for a lot of drama in the bay area for Oakland.
Bonus suckness:
Dallas will lose to the Giants this week to drop to 0-2. They have no receiving threat, a mediocre QB, and a young Defense that is unproven and will get eaten up by Saquon and Odell. Boat race city on this one.
The Good get Good-er
In week 1, Big Ben threw a million picks and the Steeler’s blew a late lead to the Browns, and allowed those juggernauts to move to 1-31-1 over their last 33.
Matt Ryan was underwhelming in the opening game last Thursday to the Eagles, mustering no TD’s and a pick on their way to a loss.
Deshaun Watson, who was the most electrifying player in the league for a stint last year pre-injury, was very underwhelming against the Pats in week 1.
In week 2, all 3 of these guys and their respective teams will rebound behind big performances from each of them.
The big wild card in week 2 will be to see how Aaron Rodgers performs despite a partially torn ACL (alledgedly). He was unbelievable in their comeback victory against the Bears on Sunday, but let’s face it, the Vikings and their D are a lot tougher of a matchup than Chicago. My guess; If Rodgers plays they win a close one to move to 2-0.
Boatrace City
Last week had a good mix of close matchups and blowouts. This week will be different.
Outside of a few games, I see all one-sided affairs. New Orleans, LA Rams, Philly, Atlanta and Houston will all win by 21+ points, while Pittsburgh, Washington and New England will all win by 17+ points.
The biggest surprise of the week will be the Atlanta Falcons. Carolina did not look very impressive against an even more under matched team in Big D, but Atlanta is no Dallas. Atlanta is going to absolutely demolish Carolina, and really define the NFC South as a 2 horse race with New Orleans.
Rookie Blues
In week 1, all 7, count that, SEVEN, new head coaches all lost. Out of those, Gruden is the only one with any NFL head coaching experience, but it’s been so damn long since he coached that he has probably forgotten everything.
In week 2, although I don’t expect a clean sweep, I do expect these coaches to struggle once again.
Shurmur for the Giants will get of the snide against Dallas. While Nagy for the Bears will win at home on Monday night against the weak sauce Seattle Seahawks. The other 5 will have to wait another week at a chance to get a dub.
