A Storm is Coming
Nope, not that one.
This one.
To say Week 1 for the Skins was pretty good is an understatement. It was nearly flawless. That is until the broadcasters on FOX had to throw out the ultimate jinx and show a graphic about how long it has been since we shutout an opponent.
Thanks, dick.
The 1-2 punch of AP and CT was unreal. Arizona couldn’t keep their balance with the different paces both of those guys bring. Alex Smith was precise with the ball. Jordan Reed was uncoverable. And the defense, oh my…
The defense was absolutely suffocating. We shut David Johnson down to under 70 all-purpose yards. Sam Bradford didn’t know if he was coming or going. And them ‘Bama boys in the middle were man-handling the Arizona offensive line.
It was beautiful.
I don’t believe in Luck
Or Andrew Luck for that matter.
Andrew Luck is the most overrated, saliva speaking nerd since Brainy from Hey! Arnold.
He was so hyped out of college, that everyone just convinced himself he was the next Joe Montana as soon as Gruden was getting off to “Spider 2 Y Banana”.
Sir Andrew is in for a world of trouble this week. If the defense is able to clog up the running lanes and force them to be one dimensional, Luck is going to struggle. Outside of T.Y. Hilton, that offense has NO ONE the Skins D should be worried about. And since they don’t have to worry about a dynamic RB that can hit the edge quick, Kerrigan and co. is going to have a field day rushing from the outside.
Thunder and Lightning
When the Skins signed AP just a few weeks ago, all the critics downplayed it.
(whispers) Adrian Peterson may have been the least effective regular RB in the NFL last year. Teams will cut unknowns in 2 weeks who are better right now than Peterson.

Adrian Peterson is done.
He was done last year.

Then it was all the questions on whether or not Chris Thompson would have any issues coming back from his leg injury this season.
LET’S.
F***ING
GO!

AP wracked up over 160 all-purpose yards. Chris Thompson got over 120 all-purpose yards. And the Skins made the Arizona D look absolutely foolish.
I know health and longevity is huge in how this season plays out, but if the team is able to manage the workload and keep those guys fresh and healthy. SHEESH.

It’s been a long while since we have had any sort of semblance of a dominate defense. Outside of the Oakland game last year, this defense never really takes over games.
Until now.
See what happens when you suck for a while, is you get to accumulate high draft pics. And when your front office and scouting department actually operates in a semi-professional manner, you are able to pick the right talent for your scheme, and attract free agents to your team that normally would have no interest.
This defense is a great mix of young, athletic beasts, paired with scrappy veteran leadership.
We know what we have in guys like Kerrigan, Norman, Brown and Smith. But there are a few specific players to watch for that are going to make all the difference in the world this year: Jon Allen, Daron Payne and Quinton Dunbar.
Allen and Payne were both covered in depth in one of my previous blogs. I love them. You will love them. We will all rejoice in love for them together.
But the single biggest accomplishment this team may have in the last several years would be if Quinton Dunbar develops into a pro-bowl caliber corner. He certainly looked like it this week, rating as the best CB of week 1.
This is a guy that was drafted as a WR in 2015 and after a year or so in the league, was then converted to DB. It’s guys like this that all the good teams seem to develop and help flourish, and it’s about time we have a success story of our own.
